Artist Statement

Torn fragments of antique paper, surviving graphics from the past, layered onto linen, edges blurring time with glazes of subtle color present a rich contemporary aesthetic.

Symbols communicating mathematics, music, ideas, thoughts or past truths, now ironic, lend a sense of humor or wonder to each fragment telling a new story, juxtaposing old ideas into a contemporary time frame.

This series is inspired by patterns of ancient textiles, Greek lexicons, old music scores, computer virus, old physiographic symbols, antique stamps and images from outdated manuals of sea creatures, some of which are now extinct. This disparity of the old knowledge to todays' begs us to consider the value of time and its allusive nature to our current sense of truth
